About us

The Tennis Network was originally founded by John Carver and Vince Reed as a joint venture to bring several Bristol / Avon based tennis coaches together in the late 1990’s, allowing them to collaborate as a group in the interests of tennis. Whilst the personnel have changed the original concept remains the same.

Both tennis coaches and tennis clubs have tended to work independently to generate their own business and clientele and this has sometimes resulted in competition that has been unhelpful for both individuals and the development of the game. At times it has, at best, been confusing for participants as they are frequently forced to choose between clubs and coaches, feeling, perhaps, that they are being disloyal if they want to sample different programmes.

With so many sports to choose from this situation can result in people opting out of the game.

The first joint venture was the ‘Tennis Network' - Summer 2000 Holiday Programme, which provided courses at a number of venues, including two hour Performance and Development courses and five hour all day programmes.

There continues to be a tremendous response to the holiday programmes and the quality of coaching provided by the "Tennis Network".

The Tennis Network is committed to:

  1. Providing suitable programmes both during term-time and holidays.

  2. Ensuring appropriate numbers for group coaching: if this means we require additional staff, only licensed, good quality and reliable coaches will be used.

  3. Offering a chance for youngsters wishing to train as tennis coaches in the future, if they appear to have the requisite skills.

  4. Seeking to provide alternatives should any of our programmes not be suitable for an individual.

  5. Being responsive to suggestions and criticism from any relevant interested parties.

  6. Making it fun, for whatever age or standard and so engaging and retaining as many people as possible in the game of tennis.

Within the Tennis Network we are able to provide: -

Development Coaching, both for groups and individuals, for all levels and ages.

Performance Coaching, for those looking for exit routes having come through our school, holiday and term programmes.

A Development Package, that looks at the possibility of combining both development and performance players from different clubs into appropriate groups for the best possible coaching service.

Also, we can provide information, through our links with the LTA and other relevant organisations, on issues and current thinking in tennis regarding both Development and Performance. This would include information on the Tournament structure and appropriate competition opportunities. .
